If You Can't Stand the Heat is a celebration of food, family, and the Italian-Canadian traditions that shaped me. This website will bring together recipes that have been passed down through generations of my Italian-Canadian family on my mother's side, alongside personal stories and anecdotes from growing up in an Italian household where food was never simply something we ate—it was how we celebrated, connected, welcomed people into our homes, and expressed our love for one another.
Rooted in the culinary traditions of Calabria, the recipes that have become If You Can't Stand the Heat will reflect the food I grew up with and the family members who taught me how powerful food can be in bringing people together.
At its heart, If You Can't Stand the Heat is about preserving something that can otherwise be lost: the recipes, stories, traditions, and memories that are passed from one generation to the next.

For me, cooking has always been about more than food — it's about family, tradition, and bringing people together around the table. I didn't set out to write a cookbook. I set out to remember. To capture the smells, the sounds, and the flavors that made my family's kitchen the center of everything.
Raised in a proud Calabrese Italian family, I grew up surrounded by the aromas, recipes and rituals of my Nanna’s kitchen, where Sunday dinners meant overflowing plates of pasta, homemade sausages, fresh vegetables, plenty of vino, and, most importantly, a table full of family. Those early experiences sparked my lifelong love affair with Italian cooking and the simple, flavourful ingredients at its heart.
What began nearly fifteen years ago as a way to feed myself in my humble Toronto bachelor apartment eventually became If You Can’t Stand the Heat, a growing collection of recipes shared through social media and inspired by generations of family cooking. Along the way, I have developed my own style—rooted in Calabrese tradition but with a contemporary, creative twist. I look forward to sharing this with you!
By day, I work in healthcare marketing, drawing on my lifelong passion for science and nutrition. In the kitchen, however, I prefer a little less precision and a lot more experimentation. For me cooking is about trusting your instincts, making a recipe your own, and, above all, cooking generously and sharing it with the people you love.
If You Can’t Stand the Heat is the culmination of fifteen years of cooking, collecting, experimenting and preserving family recipes. More than recipes, this is my invitation to you to pull up a chair, make a little mess, and bring my family’s love of food into your own kitchen.
